April 2009 The Paige Turner: Renovate Green for Less
Paige Wolf Media & Public Relations Newsletter
When planning a complete renovation of my bathroom (or two toilets separated by a wall), I was determined to go as green as possible without spending more than I could afford. Green construction and renovation has always been an area of contention for the money-crunched, so I wanted to see what could be done within the parameters of a reasonable budget.

I desperately wanted to incorporate recycled glass tile, but found that most of this product is still unfortunately overpriced. However, I compromised and sprung for some beautiful 100% recycled blue glass from Greenable for the trim and accent areas.

In lieu of spending upwards of $300 for a dual flush toilet, it turned out to be much cheaper and greener to convert my existing toilet with a $40 dual-flush converter kit. The added bathroom insulation will save me plenty of money from cranking the heat. And a low-flow showerhead and low VOC paints were a no-brainer.

So even if you can't build a room entirely from the metal you salvaged from a demolished bridge (yes, we've been watching Planet Green), it doesn't mean the little things won't add up. It's all about what you can do on your own budget and remembering that things you do now to be green can save you loads of money in the long run. We'll be checking our energy and water bills to prove it.

Save the Date: Recycle a Suit, Renew a Woman's Life

The Career Wardrobe announces its eighth annual premier fundraising event. A Perfect Fit will be held Wed., June 3 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Park Hyatt at the Bellevue.

A Perfect Fit will feature a fashion presentation by local anchorwomen and media personalities, including: Monique Braxton, Dawn Timmeney, and Denise Nakano from NBC10; Sue Serio, Kerri-Lee Halkett, Nefertiti Jaquez, Dawn Stensland-Mendte, and Michelle Buckman from Fox 29; and Erica Grow from 6ABC. These prominent media personalities literally donate the suits off their backs to The Career Wardrobe after modeling them.

This year's event incorporates the theme "Recycle a Suit, Renew a Woman's Life," which reflects the organization's work to repurpose tens of thousands of pounds of clothing each year into working wardrobes which can literally transform a woman's life.

The evening also will include live music from singer/songwriter Karen Gross and a spectacular silent and live auction featuring celebrity-signed handbags custom made by Viv Pickle Handbag Boutique in Philadelphia. This year's celebrity-inspired and signed handbags include Steve Carell (The Office), Kenny Chesney, Kellan Lutz (Twilight), Ron Howard, Melissa Etheridge, Bette Midler, and T.R. Knight (Gray's Anatomy).

Wai Hope Organic Skincare Gives True Natural Glow

One of the best things about working with organic skincare lines is getting to use all the best stuff myself. Wai Hope Organic Skincare is the new naturopathic, organic skincare line from the creator of Hope Aesthetics. The line uses a reconstructed biomarine water featuring a rare red Fijian seaweed and Brazilian rainforest super-antioxidant fruit juices.

My favorite products are the Daybreak Ultra Replenishing Moisturizer ;, which smells just like fresh peaches, the Illuminaire Enzymatic Revitalizing Mask, and the Intensive Hydrating Eye Dew.
