Why I Keep Challenging People to Arm
Wrestle
|
| |
 |
For most of my life, I was the definition of a benchwarmer. A
consummate non-athlete, it was not until my mid-20s that I discovered any level
of physical prowess through Pilates, bike riding, and eventually
running. But a
couple of months ago I discovered a workout regime so life-changing and
addictive, it's become my favorite topic of conversation.
Cross Fit is a strength and conditioning program
that aims to build proficiency in strength, speed, endurance, stamina, power,
flexibility, coordination, accuracy, agility, and balance. But don't be
intimidated -- I started out proficient only in walking the four blocks to
class.
I participate in the Fearless Athletics
Bootcamp which is fast-paced interval and circuit training. It essentially
featuring the same elements as regular Cross Fit -- strength training,
endurance, and cardio achieved by jumping up on boxes and running down the
street with a medicine ball.
OK, during most of the first
class, I hated it. Like many newcomers, I was shocked to find out that the
warm-up was just a warm-up. And the next day I felt like I was shot out of a
cannon. But after a few days of stretching and powering through, the sore
muscles subsided and I became more and more engaged in the classes. Maybe it was
my competitive streak, but suddenly I was itching to push myself and kick some
butt.
Bootcamp is accessible to people
of any fitness or ability level. I've worked out with people nursing serious
injuries and have seen that the workouts can be scaled for any level. Still
sounds scary? Or maybe it sounds exciting. Either way, let me know if you want
to tag along for a free trial. I'm there at least three days a week.

Grow Thru Play Classes for Baby and
Toddlers
|
| |
|
This is not your ordinary gym class -- learn new skills to help your
child meet the next big developmental milestone and discover activities and toys
to encourage motor development.
Grow Thru Play's fun and
interactive Play in Motion Classes allow caregivers to have fun with their
babies at a great play space while meeting other moms and getting questions
answered. All groups are run by a pediatric physical therapist with extensive
experience working with infants and toddlers. This class is open to all
children, and classes are based on developmental age rather than actual age so
activities can be better geared toward your child's growth. Classes are
available for pre-crawlers, pre-walkers, and new walkers. See full schedule and
pricing online.
Owner and director Tara Martello
is also partnering with Center City Pediatrics to offer a "Tummy Time" class on Mon., Feb. 27 from 12-1:30 p.m. Bring your baby and learn why
tummy time is so important. You'll hear about comfort measures and optimal toys
and enjoy time to practice your new skills with the guidance of an occupational
and physical therapist.

True Color Swatches Makes Online Beauty Shopping
Simple
|
|
|
|
Plenty of people have told me they are afraid to buy their
cosmetics online because they aren't sure how the color will look on their skin.
It's a reasonable fear, as even the most accurate color swatch doesn't really
translate to what appears on actual skin.
Spiritbeautylounge.com
assuages your fears with a new library of real life color swatches for all of
their cosmetics, making it easier than ever to shop for makeup and nail polish
online. Check out spring and summer
colors from Sheswai, Ilia, Alima, and more with new True Color Swatching. Now
you can rest assured that your idea of Moonlit Mauve isn't completely off
base.
